Sweet and Sour

So like most people I was introduced to Chuck Palahniukthrough Fight Clubthe movie. Then I read the book, then I read another (Lullaby)and then I listened to an audiobook of (Diary).

I knew I liked Chuck but then I was in Greece -- not in Athens but in the countryside of Greece -- and when my relaxing turned into boredom I cracked open Survivor.

It starts on the last page, page 289, chapter 47 and it counts down from there but as the pages turn and the story spins I didn't want it to end. But I quickly got to page 1 (THE END, or the beginning?) and it's the same line as the first line.

I read it again.

I loved it.

We got home (my wife and I) and we moved from Washington DC to Los Angeles. After I packed all of our books we flew here (LA) and I couldn't wait the two weeks for our stuff to get here I needed to reread Survivorso I bought another copy. Then we renovated our new house and you guessed it. I had packed up both copies of Survivor and needed to go out and buy a third copy (each copy of the book has a different cover). Luckily I think I'm a little more stable than Mark Chapman and Lee Harvey Oswald but Survivor is my Catcher in the Rye.

Tender is my Holden.

Since I'm in the Industry I tracked down the film rights to FOX 2000. I sent little samples of my adaptation to what I knew would be a brickwall of a response. And I even tried to post a review of the book on a fan site but my mention of possible actor and director combo for the adaptation was too much for the site to post so I didn't get that thought out.

But at least now I have this.

Now that I have unpacked from the renovation I have pared my collection back down to one copy but that just means that two of my friends have the other copies and they have the chance to catch the Chuck bug. Not the Chuck (the TV series),not Chuck & Larry, not Good Luck Chuckand not even the Chuck that's Ned's girlfriend on Pushing Daisies. The original -- Guts Chuck.

Read it. Love it. Read it again.
